Hidden hands

The concept for Hidden hands emerged during my time working in the costume department of the television series Dune: Prophecy. Within the original narrative, the “hidden hand” signifies unseen forces that shape events from behind the scenes—quietly influencing politics, religion, and society without revealing themselves.

As part of the creative process, I traced the palms of my colleagues onto paper, capturing a direct and personal imprint of their presence. These outlines were later transferred onto leather, using leftover and discarded materials that accumulated in the workshop over the course of production.

Each element exists as an individual trace, yet together they form a unified whole. A red thread binds them—serving both as a connective line and as a constraining force that compels them into a shared, slightly unnatural configuration.

The work reflects on the immense labor, material pragmatism, and collaboration inherent in filmmaking. Costume makers are rarely visible on screen, yet the imprint of their hands permeates every frame. Operating from behind the scenes, they shape what is ultimately seen—they are the hidden hands.
